Minocin MR – Minocycline hydrochloride

Minocin MR is an oral antibiotic medication used in the treatment of acne available in capsules. Minocin MR capsules contain the active ingredient Minocycline hydrochloride.

Minocycline hydrochloride is effective against certain bacterial infections such as Propionebacterium acnes.

How it works

Minocin prevents acne causing bacteria from reproducing. It does this by preventing each bacterium from forming a protective cell wall necessary for their survival. Bacteria disintegrate and die, stopping the spread of infection.

Taking Minocin MR

Minocin MR capsules are modified-release capsules. You should take one capsule a day at the same time as instructed by your doctor.

Further information

The capsules should be swallowed whole and not opened, crushed or chewed – to do so would damage the modified release action and affect your medicine’s efficacy.

This medication may interact with alcohol, for this reason you should limit alcohol consumption to a slight or moderate intake.

Antibiotics can alter the balance of stomach flora. You may find it beneficial to take a probiotic supplement once a day whilst using Minocin MR.
