Question: Why will my GP not prescribe me antimalaria tablets on an NHS prescription?

Answer:Malaria is an illness you can only catch in certain areas of Africa, Asia, Central and Latin America. As there is no immediate danger here at home, there is no real need to provide treatments on an NHS prescription. Ultimately, you, the traveller, choose to put yourself at risk of catching the disease by visiting risk zones and for this reason you should also be responsible for any additional medical care this entails. If you think about it, it's not really fair that money that could be spent on life saving cancer treatment be diverted to paying for lifestyle medications.
